Celestial’s bright star is Oluwatobi Awosika. Tobi is a young man that has taken a craft as a Barber to the streets of Skid Row. For those that are not familiar with Skid Row, it is approximately 55 blocks filled with homelessness, poverty, substance abuse addicts, and prostitution. Around Skid row, you have several multimillion-dollar buildings, including The Staples Center home of both The Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, The Nokia Center, and The Fashion and Flower District. Often those that live on skid row are forgotten. It is a population of approximately 10,000 people.
Tobi Awosika used an opportunity to reach an overlooked group of individuals. He decided to use his craft to show love to his fellow brothers and sisters. Tobi devoted free services to those less fortunate to allow them to feel good about themselves. Jesus showed love through acts of service. He fed the hungry and healed the sick. While we can’t necessarily cause the blind to see, we can use the gifts we have to serve others.
It may just be a haircut to you, but the person on the receiving side is filled with pure joy, which money can not buy. Proverbs 19:17 “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.” Tobi’s act of kindness reminds us that we all capable of helping others.
There is no denying that there is a direct connection between how you feel and how you look. A makeover can be a physical and emotional transformation. Makeovers help many people overcome difficult situations or life-changing moments. We have been blessed with various talents that God has given us.
Tobi Awosika is an example to emulate in the Celestial Church of Christ, which is setting a positive pace within the youth. Thank you for your service. May the Lord of Celestial continue to inspire you. God bless you all.
