Sheep have a natural tendency to follow a leader as well as a rapid impulse to flee and panic.
Jesus appeals to the little flock in Luke 12:32, “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom”
The flock of Christ consists of those who believe and accept Jesus as savior and lord. And as there’s a gigantic range of worries we experience every day, from material to psychological, Jesus alleviates our worries and fears by having us trust in God’s intention.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” -Jeremiah 29:11
Just as the shepherd’s intention is to lead the sheep to lush pastures, it is God’s intent to lead his own to the lush pastures of his Kingdom and to give it to them.
Despite the world’s attempt to convince us otherwise, we must through a sound mind in Christ retain our reliance on the unyielding nature of God’s faithfulness; trust in his power to provide comfort and rescue from any difficulty we might face and finally we must hope in his love that the ultimate promise of his kingdom awaits us to inherit.
